The Memphis Flyer brought us this article from Roll Call yesterday about opposition to Steve Cohen forming up for 2008. The most striking thing about it— Most of the old familiar faces are back, and they’re still not any more creative than they were during last year’s primary.
Ron Redwing claims that that several black community, business and religious leaders had reached out to him about the 2008 race and that he is “keeping his options open.” Why they would do this— No one has any idea. His 2006 campaign consisted of telling voters “Pick me or the white guy gets the seat”.
Ed Stanton is back in. No word yet on whether or not’s “Throw the Jew Down the Well” will be his campaign theme again.
Julian Bolton, who insisted that Steve Cohen was trying to join the Congressional Black Caucus not because he represents a majority black district, but so he can “send money to Israel“, plans on taking the lackluster leadership he brought to the county commission to the House of Representatives.
Nikki Tinker’s old traditions die hard. The woman who ran for over a year but thought “I’m not prepared to talk about the issues at this time” was an acceptable answer for most of the campaign has no official comment for The Hill. However, LaSimba Gray says she’s running, and Ramona Oliver from Emily’s List (Who sent out a slanderous piece of campaign literature on Tinker’s behalf last year) has said that Tinker told them she’s running again. All bloggers should brace themselves for yet another round of semiliterate rants from the Tinker Trolls.

And dear god, Jake Ford has said he’s running again. No word yet on whether or not he has the guts to run a primary this time. Word through the grapevine is that Harold Ford Sr. considers Nikki Tinker to be the official “Ford Party” candidate, so it’s unclear who will tie Jake’s shoes next year.
Ironically, the only people that aren’t talking about running again are the candidates that behaved honorably last year. Joe Ford Jr., who endorsed the Democratic nominee after the primary, will not be running again. Tyson Pratcher announced that he will be endorsing Cohen. Lee Harris, who ran one of the most honorable campaigns I’ve ever seen, isn’t even mentioned in the article.

Unfortunately, I see they killed Ms. Duanne Johnson. She was the transgender woman whose abuse by Shelby County officers was caught on tape in Feb. and widely published in June. She had a lawsuit against Shelby Co., I understand. When I called her attorneys’ offices to talk with them about Shelby Co. Jail’s intollerance for anyone “different,” I was shocked that the receptionist said it was also the office of Julian Bolton, Esq. Now perhaps Memphis is full of lawyers w/ that name, but what a coincidence if it is the same dirty, underhanded, scumbag (I used to not talk like that) who was managing partner of the Memphis office of The Johnnie Cochran Firm when we went crying to them after Larry Neal, a mentally ill heart patient, “went missing,” but was actually that foul jail’s prisoner?
I tried to get a message of warning to Ms. Johnson through various gay/lesbian/transgender orgs. on the Internet. I would have told her to get the heck out of that corrupt, dirty little town, Memphis, that looks like a big city, but it certainly is not. I failed to reach her, and she is dead now.
I’m alive because God revealed to me how duplicious many folks are, and I am self-contained enough to JUST STAY HOME. Folks will do most anything at all for the almighty dollar because they are going to hell and do not care, long as they go with money to burn (ha, ha!). I was cornered by up to four cars and a US DOT TRUCK!!! at a neighborhood Chevron station, and only got away because of my country upbringing. I was not afraid or ashamed to cry loud to all of the folks in the store that men were after me. The cars did not leave. When my niece came, I started to follow her out of the drive, thinking they would see I had assistance and leave us alone. THE US DOT TRUCK PULLED OUT RIGHT BEHIND US, although it had only been sitting there for about 30 minutes, the driver looking at me as I spoke to folks on the sidewalk, in the store about being trapped.
The customers were so alarmed for me they volunteered to wait in their cars until 911 came in response to my call — BUT DEKALB COUNTY GEORGIA NEVER SENT A COP CAR!!! Now I know The Cochran Firm has lots of money, but I cannot believe they could arrange that!
In all, over the past six weeks, I have been held up in businesses and had to call for help a total of five times. Each time, I told folks all about what was going on, and sometimes customers would go AND GET THE LICENSE NUMBERS!!!! SO I KNOW WHO A FEW OF THEM ARE, PERHAPS — of course, if they are who they might be, who knows if the license numbers are real? More often, the cars have driveout tags.
Ms. Duanne Johnson did not know what she was up against. I have a better idea. EVIL IN HIGH PLACES WORKING IN COLLUSION. I used to not talk about being followed, until ANGELA MASON SET ME FREE – Cochran Firm attorney who told the USDC (where I am suing them this time) what color the vehicle was that followed me home from work each night. HOW DID SHE KNOW??? See our court docket, item 22, last paragraph.
I am so upset over Ms. Johnson. Maybe I should have tried harder. Maybe there was something else I should have done to try to reach her and warn her of the folks in Memphis.
This post is not to imply that I have any idea who killed Duanne Johnson or why, but I can guess like anyone else — actually BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE.

I just wanted to add, that when my niece and I saw the US DOT truck was going to actually FOLLOW us away from Chevron, we went back and parked in front of Chevron and I went back inside. That is when I called my son-in-law.
All of this happened while I had my little grandson (six years old) with me. What were they going to do to him? Anyway, DeKalb Co. police never came. There was an off-duty policeman watching the liquor store next door, and the Chevron owner suggested I go talk to him. All the while the men were just standing around watching my movements. Some even came into the store and milled around, not making purchases really. One bought a lotto ticket. But they never left the parking lot.
The cop next door listed to me tell him about the men, and I asked him to use his phone to call 911 again for me. He said he would go and talk to the US DOT truck driver. By that time, about 45 min. had passed. It was about 10:00 p.m.! What government truck is out working that late — and what kind of work keeps him sitting in his truck looking at me and doing nothing? — All I know is that the USDOJ was in overview of SHELBY COUNTY JAIL WHEN LARRY DIED, AND THEY ARE NOT COOPERATING WITH HELPING US AT ALL – won’t investigate Larry’s death, either lied about Shelby Co. sending records as it had to under the terms of its lawsuit, or else it allowed the jail to break the Agreement it had which said the jail had to report deaths to the USA. Which of those, I do not know.
Goodness! Gracious! I am no agent. I don’t know all of this cloak and dagger stuff. I am a Georgia grandmother who took my grandson to the store for a late treat because school was out! And just look at the mess we were in – just to the corner store.
I have mics on my computer that I cannot close. I AM NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR OF MY OWN COMPUTER, ACCORDING TO MICROSOFT. REMOTE ACCESS!!!! That is likely how folks used to know when I was leaving home. Now I just gave up leaving home, more time to write.
In all, the Chevron ordeal lasted about an hour. We left when my son-in-law came, and I could be sandwiched between the two cars. That off duty cop who had talked with the US DOT truck never did come back to me and tell me what explanation the driver had for sitting looking at me for an hour, trying to follow us out of the drive, returning to park when my niece and I did — DON’T THEY WORK ON FEDERAL HIGHWAYS????
Ms. Johnson was probably lucky to live long as she did, suing the 3rd largest jail in the nation!
